For the month of May, 10% of all sales of capiz chimes will be donated to support the work of Asians for Collective Liberation. Learn more about their work here: aclspokane.org
These capiz chimes are handcrafted in a family workshop in Bali, Indonesia. Capiz shells, or “jingle oysters,” are shellfish that grow like weeds in shallow sea beds. Traditionally harvested for their meat, fishermen now save the shells as well so they can be used to create these beautiful pieces. The shells are carefully sorted, dried, sliced, shaped, sanded and dyed. Strung together with a strong, invisible nylon cord, the thin, flat translucent pieces provide luminous color and a delightful sound. Lastly, the rough outer parts of the shells are ground down and used as a nitrogen-fixing fertilizer for agriculture on the island. They're the perfect zero waste addition to your home or garden!
