This elegant statement piece works as a chime OR a chandelier! Just add a standard cord set to illuminate the strands of shells. All of our capiz chimes are handcrafted in a family workshop in Bali. Capiz shells, or "jingle oysters," are shellfish that grow like weeds in shallow sea beds. Traditionally harvested for their meat, fishermen now save the shells as well so they can be used to create these beautiful pieces. The shells are carefully sorted, dried, sliced, shaped, sanded and dyed. Strung together with strong, invisible nylon cord, the thin, flat translucent pieces provide luminous color and a delightful sound.
