Emerald Elegance Burkina Bronze Sculpture

  • $198.00

A small group of talented metal casting artisans in Burkina Faso sculpt this beautiful and stately woman in green from recycled metal using a lost-wax casting process. Each sculpture bears unique characteristics that reveal the handmade nature of its creation.

This piece is made using the lost wax method of casting bronze. Originating in the Middle East in the ninth century, lost wax is one of the first known methods of working with molten metal.
Artisans in Burkina Faso sculpt wax into a figure, then coat it with clay and allow it to dry. They then pour molten bronze into the mold, melting the wax and allowing liquid bronze to fill the shape. After the metal cools, the artisan breaks the clay, revealing a one-of-a-kind figure. Each figure is imbued with their own personality and characteristics to fall in love with and will vary from piece to piece.

Because this is a handcrafted item, each will vary slightly.
