Beaded Egg - Matte Beads
Stunning beaded eggs in a variety of bright colors and patterns. Each egg has a tiny hook for hanging, or feature them as part of your springtime tablescape!
How they are made: Skilled beadworkers in South Africa begin with a roll of copper wire and wind it off the roll by wrappiing around their big toes! They then cut the wire into equal lengths and place it on a long piece of tape. They place an actual egg on top of the tape and wrap the wire around the egg, creating a base on which they can begin weaving and beading!
The women work w/ their beads on their laps, legs stretched out. When the egg is close to closure, a piece of wire or large safety pin is used to poke a circle in the shell. The actual egg is then shaken into a receptacle, to be used for food!
After they shake out the remaining shell, the open hole is closed off with more beaded weaving. And voila!
